Maybe we enjoy some stories because they tell of lives entirely different from our own. Stories cast a spell, setting aside the corners of practical life, so soul can be served.

The Re-Enchantment of Everyday Life
I just sat on the back porch and read my mothers story. I am so deeply moved by the depth and honesty youve captured. I really do hear my mothers voice telling me her story. There is so much new information I didnt know and there are the parts I did know but without the depth of feeling and context that helps to weave the story of who she is now . . . and, therefore, who I am.
I am so very grateful to have connected with StoryMatters and to have this history of my mother (and father) and their families. It will mean so much to my sisters and my sons!
I look back on the initiating of this family history and realize that an outside force was guiding me as I made the decision to ask you to write it for my family. I had recently lost my mom and I knew that my aunt June, who had the most fantastic memory was quite ill and not likely to live much longer. I am so grateful that you were able to interview her shortly before she passed away, as she was truly the keeper of many family stories and events. I think her wit, kindness and outlook on life rang loud and clear in the way you captured her essence in print.
In hindsight I only wish that my own mother had been alive and able to tell her story as well. She had led a difficult life, with many hard times coupled with extremely good ones at times. She would have had much to contribute. I do, however, appreciate the stories I do have and thank you for your patience, understanding and warmth when you put these family memories together. I will be forever grateful that our joint venture became a reality.
A visit to my great-grandfather's home in Ireland prompted an interest in the Macafee side of my family. I was lucky enough to get a lot of information there and when I got home I collected stories and photos from relatives and then StoryMatters did a fabulous job of organizing my information into a wonderful family booklet. My sons and cousins were thrilled to get copies of these books. The younger generation was fascinated to read about their great-great-grandparents!
What a gift this is for them and future generations. Thank you!
I loved reading the stories about my Nana's childhood. Even the tales and facts that I had already heard from her took on a new meaning when I read them from her sisters' perspectives. I actually read the book almost entirely in one night, as I couldn't put it down. It has inspired me to be consistent about writing entries in my children's journals.
